The Mighty App Store has reached it’s amazing 2,000,000,000 download. That’s about the entire population of China. Amazing. That’s why the market for iPhone Application Developers is still huge and growing. Developers take HEED.

Orange is said to have made a deal with Apple. That means we, in Thailand, might see AIS as the next iPhone distributor. That would be really nice, since True’s limited coverage has been a pain when I travel. However, AIS’s 999/month unlimited data is still a robbery compared to True’s 599/month.

Unicom finally – have officially announced their iPhone release data. 01.10.09. So, I was wrong on my previous 15.10.09 date, but I was close on the month. Imagine another 5 million iPhone being sold. Just think how many downloads the App Store will have once the Chinese get on board. Developers take HEED of these crazy numbers.

Palm is said to have stopped their iTunes Syncing ability for their new webOS 1.2 update. So soon? But I think it’s for the better seeing that Palm just can’t be a Klingon on Apple forever. Yes, have courage and venture forward. See how the people will welcome your new ‘Palm Store’.. Best of luck fighting against Apple’s 25 billion cash war chest.

A report from iPhoneHacks stated that a research company estimated that Apple made $440 million from their App Store. Based on Apple’s 30% commission on each app sold and the percentage of paid apps that were downloaded (13%-21% of 1.8 Billion at an average of $3 per app). This shows that Apple probably made somewhere between $60 million – $110 million each quarter. Which means that developers have made somewhere between $140 million – $250 million per quarter. Major kudos to Apple for pioneering this business model. iPhone developers should take note that this piece of pie will get even larger after China and S. Korea opens their iPhone market.

This would be a great opportunity for us – The iPhone Developer in Thailand team. We are fluent in English, Thai and Mandarin. That is one of our strong point – we can create apps for the English, Thai, AND the Chinese market. We plan to launch our new Chinese App by the end of this year. Huge market – Great opportunity!

You would think that Thailand would be a great market for iPhone Application Developers. However, This field is getting saturated with ‘quack programmers’ with little or no experience in Objective C and Cocoa coding. Unsuspecting clients lured by their inexpensive rates find themselves abandoned with half finished projects. Majority of these clients complain of the ‘lost in translation’ syndrome that they experienced with the Thai developers. Here are some tips for clients thinking of hiring free lance iPhone Application Developers in Thailand. The client needs to make sure that the developer gives them a documented work flow of the application. Make sure that the developer is aware of your expectation and your goals. Always have their contact number and physical address documented. Always be sure that you have a written service agreement that both parties understand. Finally, in your service agreement – ALWAYS make sure that it is stated that YOU own the code and the program. Unless this is addressed – Thai law states that the programmer, NOT the client, own the software that they wrote. The iPhone Application market is a growing market. Make sure that you get the right resources to fulfill your goals.

I’ve done this so it works. iPhone 3G and iPod Touch owners can use the iPhone OS 3.1 video trimming feature. Obviously, you have to update to 3.1 – Send attachment of video format either through MMS or email to your 3G or iPod Touch device, save the attachment. View the attachment and trim away..
